Developing Boys into Gainfully Employed Men, Inc. - DBGEM is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that introduces industry knowledge, innovation, education, preparation, integrity, focus, commitment, and responsibility to give male youths a vision and path for a financial and economically sustainable future. Our value comes from exemplifying the job and career opportunities frequently overlooked and seldom seen or experienced by youths from traditional to nontraditional roles.
The enrichment programs are for male youths from all socio-economic backgrounds starting from 7th and 8th grade middle school, and 9th grade through 12th grade high school. The middle school and 9th grade students will receive extensive introductions to developing good study habits, time management, test preparation, career and job introductions, consultative mentorship, and more. All of the students including the 11th and 12th graders will participate in interview preparation, business tours, college preparation, college tours, mentorships, internships, and sponsorships for academics and work.
DBGEM envisions young men prepared for life after high school with post-secondary education, certification, and training in career and job fields connecting young people with opportunities to transform and sustain their lives.
Commitment: Inspire boys from an early age of insecurity and uncertainty to prepare for life with focus, purpose, commitment, and conviction instilling a sense of direction, hope, and a future by being able to provide financially for themselves.
Responsibility: Empower youth by introducing them to traditional and non-traditional careers and jobs in overlooked areas of employment while establishing goals and teaching them to follow through on their commitment to self-preservation. Ultimately, taking responsibility for the level of success in their lives no matter what their circumstances.
Possibility: Expand the perspective of boys and young men to seek careers in professions not being filled that are generally unknown. This will help expand and, in some instances eliminate minority’s lack of employment options while serving as an economic source and means for vastly underfilled jobs.
Support: An individual is dramatically influenced by what they see, who they are around, and the opportunities presented to them. Who they are and what they become are determined by their life preparedness skillset, foundation, and support system. We will exemplify, and clarify through research and testing the job and career opportunities for boys and young men to provide the driving source to their career selections in life.
